As an aside, when the profile was loaded back up, it had lost seat position, HUD position, keys 1-8, re-started various settings like gesture, pop ups. If I had been patient, would these automatically have been synched with the car??

judging by the number of you that have had this come through in the last 48 hours, i would say it's nothing to do with anything you can do, and more than bmw have released it to the UK users all at once !

Downloaded 07/2021.85 to phone in about 15mins and uploaded to car in 30mins. Just waiting to find a snooker table to park on, a 4.5 mph S. Easterly breeze, the full moon, and all the other conditions required to install it!!!🧐

I've been checking for a fair while now. It might well be a coincidence that it came through 10 minutes after I checked, found no update, deleted and reinstalled my profile, but.....

Finally finished downloading after another 45 min drive this morning. The actual install was fine. I’ve seen the release notes; will see if things have actually changed

God I find BMW tech so frustrating (ie crap). Is this really the best way to do updates??
So yesterday, drove about ½ hour and it got to 44% preparing (not sure if it has to do that AND an install). Nothing changed today particularly. Put on BT and WiFi and did a 45 min drive. Car refused to connect the apps. All the relevant permissions in car and phone are exactly the same as yesterday. As a result nothing happened with the update. Is there a secret to get the apps bit to connect?? Frankly speaking it would be so much easier to put you VIN in, get a download to USB and update from there. Sometimes I think that they're just trying to be clever for the sake of being clever.

Maybe they are trying to restrict access to the files as best as possible to stop people from trying to be too clever, dicking about with them, bricking their car, and then go whining to BMW to repair.
Would be a load easier though, and sure they could implement some decent checksums to ensure modified code doesn't get attempted. Most other manufacturers with products with downloadable firmware seem to be able to manage it.

It won't have be "one file", each car will have a different set of ecus , and based off the cars current istep, a different subset of files again will need to be downloaded.
This is why the "jumps" of happen too - some of the files over > 500mb each ( headunit ones ), but also a load of some , few kb files. Last time I did an ista update with esys there were like 60 odd files that changed |

I was so close 😂 I set it to download on a journey to work about 45 mins, I planned to sit in the car at work to let it finish. Checked it about 5 mins away & thought great as was at 85%.
Got to work, completely forgot & switched the car off out of habit when it was probably on 99%. Since then it's been stuck on 'preparations complete for update, you'll be notified when you can install'. I've tried random drives, checking daily & reset of idrive nothing, I'm an idiot hahah. |

I have my dealer appointment Monday. I was mainly taking it in for software update (have some minor issues I hope an update might fix).
I am on 2021.11.30. (In USA) Can anyone in USA confirm that there is in fact a newer version before I waste my time?
