Most radio stations these days are DAB as you get a stronger more reliable signal!

Sorry yes, basically any high-power station should suffice, rather than something like MW. |

And surely the Mobile App would say that there was an update pending. Mine is religiously stating that there isn't one.

I *believe*, and I'll get confirmation when I next bring the car in, but it's to do with the adaptive component inside the car that learns which areas are "suitable" to pull updates at. By switching to a high power radio station, antenna gain is likely reduced which then indicates to the car there's a better chance at being in a "high signal" area.
Essentially, it's not so much the medium of the radio spectrum as the car's ability to receive a signal, which thereby impacts the likelihood of the car continuing with whatever process it has through the updates. One of the big impedances to receiving OTAs is the determined signal strength. In my case I live near an airfield which they suggested could also be affecting communications. In any case, the fault code in the car reported my signal strength at 22, with the "poor" strength band being 18-33. Not saying it's a silver bullet either, just something that was recommended to me by the w/shop manager after they updated my car to the latest i-step. Dealer gave usual caveats of not knowing if the update and radio suggestion would do anything to help, but was the first step in the processes they have to go through. They did say they consulted with BMW on it after pulling up a field test report, but I'll try get some case numbers etc. and report back. In any case, can't do much damage to try... other than to your sanity if you end up stuck with Jeremy Vine |

When I spoke to the BMW ConnectedDrive team about it, they mentioned internally some cars having what's referenced as an "RSU Defect". I wasn't getting map OTAs either (and still haven't yet actually), so when I mentioned to the CD rep that it does seem like some issue with the data collection function inside the car (since both OTAs and map OTAs haven't been coming through) they recommended I contact the dealer with their reference code, and subsequently the work was done under warranty. |

Mine was on 03.21 and have been checking for updates weekly .
Car went in for 1st service and the wing nut re-call so I told them car wouldn't update software or maps . I've always updated maps manually by usb when they become available though . The said they tried and initially it said downloading but then stopped . When I went to collect the car she put they fob on some sort of reader (looked like a charging pad) and said there was no software available . After reading the comments about radio station and signal strength I changed to Radio 1 yesterday and then changed media back to carplay (rarely listen to radio - usually car play) - couldn't hurt . Today was driving for about 15 mins and a notification popped up on idrive that a software update is available to download on my phone. Sure enough My Bmw app also notifying to download update and connect to car. Coincidence or just my turn . I'll leave it on radio 1 in future ! Also where I was when it notified is a poor signal area Car buit 02/20 |

Oh… way to rain on my parade 😂 I might get that one in 2024 hopefully[/QUOTE] Well, I've been having connectedDrive issues, and they pushed a "technical update" to the car on Friday to resolve. It's a new build, so no doubt they've had to fix-forward into the march i-step (came from factory with 21-11-538) |

Not sure if a coincidence or not, but I phoned ConnectedDrive services to tell them I'm having issues getting the latest software. They sent me an email to try out some steps such as hard reset idrive and delete and recreate a profile. I didn't get a chance to try any steps yet but within an hour I got pushed the latest 07/2021.85 OTA update.
I suspect that when I contacted ConnectedDrive services something triggered the OTA when they were searching for my car on their system. Worth a try if anyone is still struggling to get the latest OTA. |

Can anyone state if there is anything newer than my 2021/11.30 ? I see someone mention a 2022/03 version but that seems implausible seeing as how we are in February still
I have en ever seen an OTA update in 3 months of ownership but maybe I'm in latest version.

The march istep started coming out 2 weeks ago , but as I said earlier bmw pushed a manual version to mine car to fix some connected drive issues( outside of the main roll out you guys are seeing today ). My car has the 6P1 option which removes CarPlay and AA temporarily, it's likely got different hardware and the drivers are only in 03/22 onwards

Also, if you are already on the 11/21 release, then although there's some minor patches, there's no new functionality for you yet. November is up to .568 patch level ( my car came with .538 then went to .560 when I added Full beam assist from the store )

I found it would stick for a few minutes on a certain % then jumped 15-20% at a time.
Oddly this is the first time in 4 updates I have not had the option to pull the update from the car - insisted it was done via my phone app. Assume its BMW trying to save on data transfer? |
