The best way to warm up, is to start driving immediately. Just keep RPMs low until the oil temp comes up.

IMO, I believe it is actually bad for the engine to let it fully warm up at idle before driving off (carbon deposits).
I wait 30-60 seconds before driving off. It is about the time it takes for the cold start to spool down a notch. You can see the RPM drop from above 1000 to below 1000. I find that the car is jerky if I drive off before that. |

I wait for the noisy valve to stop and that in turn also lowers the rpm...it sort of settles and very noticeable. It only takes about a minute and then I drive off under 3k until it's at operating temps.
Edit: basically what CanautM3 said. If I just drive off the car lunges into second. The colder it is the longer it takes to settle is what I noticed. Edit 2: just realized this is the F8X forum, doh! I have no idea if same applies to this car.

Just wait for the startup / fast idle to kick down and drive off. Drive easily until the engine at least gets the oil temp off the peg. Drive progressively harder as it warms. Don't beat on it when it's still on the peg. Easy peasy. |

Are you guys serious? This car warms up quickly and reaches OIL operating temp within ~7-8 minutes pretty darn consistently.
Maybe you are used to watching water temp reach operating temp, which usually happens about 2x as fast as oil temp? ... For the OP, please stop idling your car to warm-up. It's bad for your car and wasteful. Drive shortly after starting gently to warm it up, gently being between 2000-3000 rpms for the most part and light throttle usage. In below freezing weather, maybe give it 30 seconds to warm-up before driving. That's it.

Its fine to crank it up and drive right off. The important part is that all of the moving bits are getting lubricated. If you get worried about it in the winter just crank your car right up as you get in then by the time you have opened your garage / put on seatbelt / get settled then the car will definitely be ready to go.
Of course dont go banging through the gears while the car is cold, thats a different story lol. |

I thought the car was warmed up once the lights on the RPM dial go to one yellow light at 7000 rpm mark and the rest are red. When I start the car and its cold the yellow mark is around 5500 rpm's and slowly goes to 7000 rpm's. Shit am I incorrect.
What is proper operating temp? |

*When the lights on the RPM dial are normalized its warm enough to redline if necessary *When the oil temp needle starts moving then its warm enough to drive normally *When the oil temp needle its close to the center (or wherever it usually sits, I cant recall) then the car is warm enough to drive on the track. Basically what it comes down to is drive at low RPM's in the first situation when the engine is cold, drive moderately in the second situation, and drive it like you stole it in the third |

If it's cold out, I usually go and give it a quick start and go back in and eat breakfast. Only cause I don't wanna sit in the cold. Otherwise I start that thing and we out.
