Extended warranty
Yes or no? If yes, what's a reasonable price vs. what the dealer is quoting? And what about third party warranties? I'll be picking up my X5 in a few days.

I would go for it....whatever gives me peace of mind. I negotiated with the dealer 3 extra years (so, form standard 2 years, now it's 5 years), thinking I would be covered for the period I want to keep the car. The cost of the option, as far as I can remember, was around 1.400 EUR in Germany. The car the X5 replaced was a Audi Q5 and it was plagued with things falling apart after the 2 years warranty (door locks, EGR, some issue with the brake calipers...and all of them between 65k km and 80k km on the clock, which I found unacceptable).
My vote goes with extra warranty, especially if the dealer is eager to sell and can throw it in. cheers |

My insurance company offers mechanical breakdown insurance for 7 years.
They charge 80 for 6 months. That comes to 14x80=1120$ Coverage is same as manufacturer extended warranty. |

Can some of you who have extended warranty in the US kindly share what you paid for it? Thank you.

I honestly wouldn't bother with it until your standard 4 year/50k miles warranty is close to expiration here in the US. What if your vehicle is involved in an accident, is plagued with issues (poor build quality), or you just want something else and you choose not to keep it past the 4 year warranty anyhow? Just better to wait as the price differential is not much different between purchasing when taking delivery of the vehicle versus waiting until your regular warranty is almost up. Just IMHO of course.

Agree with PunjabiM3, similar in Canada. However, subject to annual price increases, I don't track it but I don't think it is that much of an annual increase if any.
Much can happen within 4 years, also just approaching the 4 year you have the actual mileage to determine how many km's you want to purchase. Some say the issues arise generally (not always) from km driven and not time. So for me with limited driving, I am less inclined to buy. |

Years / Kilometers
Cdn prices: I don't think they discount this (2014 F15, really only 2 or 3 yr extension from original 4yr period) Extended Warranty 6 years / 160,000 kms $4,299 6 years / 200,000 kms $4,499 7 years / 160,000 kms $5,499 7 years / 200,000 kms $5,699 |

Yes, please do share. Feel free to PM if you feel the need. I am interested in something like a 6yr/100K. I am sure it is negotiable, but I wonder just by how much. Would like someone who got a good deal to give me a number to work towards. |

Meh. Least of my concerns as I don't care about a few hundred buck increase here and there, or to finance a warranty. Might be different if I was stretching my budget to buy a Nissan Versa though.

That's great for you. However that doesn't mean that there aren't benefits to buying the warranty at delivery for others. That's all.

but it seems like cataitu has paid dearly for his additional fifth year of coverage (1400 EUR he says). In Belgium warranty is 2 years extendable to another 2 years for around 450 EUR.
